Lynwood Unified seniors got the chance to discover the possibilities and design their futures during the third annual INSPIRE Community College and Career Fair on February 9, empowering students to make informed decisions about their post-graduation plans.
With resumes in hand, about 300 curious students from Firebaugh, Lynwood and Vista high schools explored a variety of higher education and career opportunities, meeting with representatives from colleges who shared potential career pathways and employers who discussed high-paying entry-level positions.
“For me as a senior, this is giving me more insight as to more opportunities I can pursue after high school, whether it’s like colleges or careers in general,” said Lynwood High School student Arlene Zillow, who plans to pursue computer science.
Students learned about trades such as auto collision repair and paint, machine tool technologies, and health sciences available at Cerritos and Compton colleges, the Lynwood Community Adult School, and NTMA Machinist Career College. They also learned about careers available within the LA County Sheriff's Department, Caltrans, LA County Sanitation District and more.
The INSPIRE event is a testament to Lynwood Unified’s commitment to providing students who may not be on a traditional postsecondary path with resources, access to local employers, and opportunities that encourage them to take the steps necessary for a successful journey toward their futures.
