Lynwood Unified High Schools Kick Off College Application Season

Firebaugh and Lynwood high schools kicked off the start of college application season with exciting staff vs. student softball showdowns and other exciting weeklong activities to inspire students and reinforce the importance of higher education and career in the Lynwood community.

As a way to build connections as students embark on the exciting college application journey, each school’s Opening Week featured lunchtime activities, including Loteria college games, creating college pennants, and college workshops.

Applications to attend UCs and CSUs opened on Oct. 1, with a Nov. 30 deadline. During this time, the college access teams at both sites will be supporting students throughout the process, from refining brag sheets to gathering letters of recommendation.

Lynwood Unified is committed to increasing the number of students who apply and enroll in institutions of higher education, with college and career center counselors providing resources and hands-on guidance for college admission and career exploration.

This includes workshops on how to make a successful college transition, college field trips to experience college-going culture and completing financial aid (FAFSA) forms starting this December. With the support of school site staff, approximately 90.5% of seniors in the Class of 2023 completed their FAFSA applications.
