Roosevelt Elementary Awarded Bronze Award for Success in PBIS Program

Roosevelt Elementary School students and their families cheered wildly on Feb. 22 when the school unveiled its new Bronze Award for work in the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.

U.S. Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán joined Lynwood Unified Board of Education and community members during a ceremony that celebrated Roosevelt’s success in PBIS - a system framework for teachers, administrators and parents to help students achieve better behavior and success in the classroom.
Roosevelt’s PBIS coach, Domitila Aguilar-Millan, spoke of Lynwood’s strong community bond that has helped the school achieve new heights. Roosevelt’s Think Together students also performed a dance routine that stirred the crowd.

Roosevelt has thrived in the program through a variety of initiatives, including a Bear Bucks reward system that incentivizes students to make good decisions; a PBIS student store, a book of the month program, parent development workshops and a homework club.
