Computer Science

Lynwood Unified supports President Obama's Computer Science for All (#CSforAll) Initiative. In such we have a variety of opportunities for students to explore Computer Science.

Google CS-First is used for grades 3-8. Teachers at each school received training in Google's coding program which connects to Scratch, a free block coding program developed my MIT to help students develop their creative thinking skills and enhance exposure to computer science. Elementary schools are implementing CS-First into their daily schedule or hosting after-school clubs.

#iCanCode K-2 iPad Initiative incorporates iPads and STEAM tools that feature the ability of students to code their movements via block coding apps.  The initiative focuses on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), with an emphasis on robotics and coding. Two K-2 teachers per site will participate in the initial pilot program.

Hour of Code is a global event occurring during Computer Science week in December. It is an event to celebrate computer science with 1-hour coding activities. Lynwood USD will participate in Hour of Code this December. Keep an eye out for further information soon!
