to the Lynwood Unified School District where, “Every student will be prepared for college and career.”
Our primary goal is to ensure that all of our students receive a solid academic foundation that will propel them as they progress from elementary school, through the middle school and high school so that they can graduate college and career-ready. We want our students to have all options available to them when they leave our district. In order to meet this goal, we will focus on professional development for teachers and administrators and the use of data to guide all decisions. We will also work to make certain that each of our schools provides a safe and orderly environment for students, parents and staff. Finally, we must ensure the fiscal health of the district.
As superintendent, I am committed to providing the students of the LUSD with the highest quality education available to any student anywhere in the country. I know this is possible. I look forward to working with parents, students, staff, administration, and the community to make this a reality.
Mr. Edward Velasquez
Superintendent
Public Notice: Intent to Submit Application for Grant
Lynwood Unified School District will submit an application to the California Department of Education for a 21st Century High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETs) Program grant. If funded, grant funds will be used to establish after school programs at Lynwood High School, Marco Antonio Firebaugh High School and Vista High School.
After school programs will provide students with academic enrichment opportunities, with activities designed to complement the students’ regular academic program and assist students in passing the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). The program will also offer literacy and related educational development services to the families of students. The program helps working parents by providing a safe environment for students during nonschool hours or periods when school is not in session.
Public input about the proposed 21stCentury High School After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens Program may be made to Edward Velasquez, Superintendent, 310.886.1600 x76601 or evelasquez@lynwood.k12.ca.us.
