Lynwood Unified Initiates Bidding Process for LHS Building G Demolition, Hosts Job Walk at Imperial Campus

Several potential contractors gathered at the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus on Aug. 15 to receive an overview of the reconstruction project, tour the site and submit questions as part of a demolition bidding process ahead of the Board of Education selecting a company to tear down the fallen building.

The mandatory job walk was the first step in securing a contractor to carry out the demolition of building G and the necessary surrounding areas. This work is expected to start in October.

Interested contractors must submit formal bids by Sept. 7, with the Board coming to a final decision at its Sept. 14 meeting. Currently, demolition is estimated to take place over the course of 128 days from the starting date, with construction of the new 150,000-square-foot classroom building beginning in summer 2024.

To celebrate this next step, the District will soon hold a demolition ceremony for the Lynwood Unified community. More details will be provided.

Additional project updates are as follows:

  • Baseball fields will no longer be in use as the campus prepares to make room for demolition equipment and staging. Alternative playing options are being explored for the baseball and softball fields before they begin upgrades in 2025.
  • Huckabee construction management firm has been actively engaged in meetings with Lynwood High administrators, teachers and stakeholders to receive feedback and discuss the different phases of the project.
  • The District is coordinating with the City of Lynwood to ensure smooth cooperation and compliance, particularly regarding sewer connections and local ordinances.

Lynwood Unified School District is committed to the continued success of our students and school community. Throughout the process, the District will continue to provide updates regarding the Lynwood High School Imperial Campus.
