The District celebrated the highlights and achievements from the year at the Board Meeting on July 23, 2020.

Alan's Anderson tree lemonade laxative School in prison or place your right hand over your heart ready begin I pledge allegiance to the flag of United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you you may be seated thank you Doctor DC now we move on to 2% good evening everyone and thank you for joining us today and today we want to just spend a little bit of time going over some of the highlights for the end of the year and also provide you with an update regarding the Lynnwood High School facility is Williston wash so these are our ongoing projects and give you an update in treasure for some of the work that we've been doing with our Equity Department next line please I asked mr. Carlos Zaragoza director of secondary who's a standing there for dr. Lucas to just go over the HR section at this time hi good evening for president to Hardie board members and dr. Crossley thank you it's my pleasure to just share a few of the highlights here from the research human resources department disco year one of these I want to highlight is the Adler University Residency program that we have create a pathway for us to bring on teachers that learn the Linwood way so instead of teachers going to the university and learning to the university there actually working directly with our teachers and earning their credential at the same so this really allows us to trade a pipeline of teachers that are focused in the Lynnwood way of doing things the other one is another pipeline that will you start up a human resources department which is find administrative program still 20 teachers who are aspiring administrators that have been working with us and we got cut short due to the closure so excited about continuing that and adding more teachers to that program so that we have great leadership and we train our leaders also in the Lynnwood wait next slide please as you know I mean artistic is still in Define enrollment so what we've been working on is making sure that our district Staffing Alliance to the enrollment so this year we didn't have any layoffs were not doing any reduce about 35 certificate of positions do it through the most hits with a retirement program that we had so that helps us in a car savings also we have in regards to enrollment and the last one I want to highlight is the shortening of postings and testing frames and that's mostly on the classified side we really worked on that time frame from along. Maisel post that job and recruitment now within two months we want to make sure that we have a list we WE Post we went to the Recruitment and then the manager can can I hire within a two months time frame so those are the things that last thing I just want to say is happening Happy opening day to everybody go Dodgers today thank you very much mrs. Russia continuing on we have ed services doctors I'm sorry I missed your from this is her good evening so I'm going to provide you with some highlights from the business department which represents seven different departments from fiscal to purchase security technology maintenance operation Transportation with Management on metal left one or two of them out but here's some cute things that was a highlight for us in the 1920s year we made a successful transition to Dean's open shirt for workers compensation we continue to maintain fiscal Health with that comes a positive a certification on our financials we we have had some great work done with Arbonne Arbonne work we play in new HVAC system at Lynnwood High School last year and we did some renovations to the Middle School field just stepped right he like two of them we've also have been C receiving where we were receiving Susie Stevens cost about $1,000 per month and we're hoping to even blower that increase as we go in the 2021 school year as well we're also improving our operations in Child Nutrition and always looking to who are fishing senior Communications with our mot and our facilities thank you mister friendly Paws here for any questions or comments alright let's continue with ed services dr. Dinkins thank you thank you I'm happy tonight to talk about the year under its services division we have Lynwood High being a man. Standing school commendations for ball for their excellent International Baccalaureate program Lynnwood High was also named the pre-ap school are ECE program under the direction of Dr Bloomfield received a 5-2 rating some of the in the state of California over 400 College acceptances to historically black colleges and universities and 138 seals of by literacies syllabi literacy awarded this year next light please I'm happy to talk about special education in the highlights this year we are continuing to support all of our various staff members under the department of special education we have updated our AAA procedures development lamented a program of continuous service or early dispute resolution is is up and going on our Lake hote a bag which was a Monumental task scuotto's to the special ed department for that that cost 8 minutes in that back has been estimated to be approximately three million dollars and we finally completed our special appearance center located at Linwood Middle School however right before we were able to cut the ribbon and introduce it to the community we were forced into school closures by the pendant make but once we are safe to do so we will definitely celebrate that accomplishment next flight and then I'm always proud to talk about the grand our staff has diligently independently and with some grant writers are Partnerships with ncrf are always Monumental for our students and Community with over 6.2 million dollars in scholarships awarded to students independently mr. Juan barroso and the secondary team brought a $900,000 Health Sciences and stem graph as well as the 868000 drifting engineering Technology and Manufacturing Grant also receive CTE and sends crap at $426,000 I'm very proud of our Keck Foundation Grant at 225 and our community are California Community Foundation cracks at $45,000 which that Grant is very difficult to get and I'm proud of that graph of the work done over the summer or partnership with Kaiser Permanente for mental health at 45000 the Honda Foundation who gave is 25000 for technology Rosa Parks and in the department of arts and culture over $18,000 Grant so great work to the department and division of ed services grab rates at right now are not finalized a we anticipate that we will have increases as you can see over there an almost last 10 years we have at increases every year and I'll grab race and as soon as those 1920 numbers become a we will update the board accordingly next side same for a four-year cohort graduation rate I just want to point out that every subgroup that has been identified here has had significant increases over the years and add again when the 1920 data is finalized we will update the board with congratulations to all the schools and students who did an outstanding job this year next light please NCR FAFSA application raised to four year colleges in our universities is up in the last three years we've got some 60 in the 60s to the 80s and the 70s to the 80s and as we continue to make this a priority with monitoring former outside agencies as well as our employees are counselors are principles and Atman we know this number will continue to rise but I am proud of the outstanding work done this year we were off to a grey-star prior to school Moses and were able to celebrate Pride school closes at 92% and 81% faster applications to our current high schools congratulations Lynwood high in Firebaugh high school next slide please are a through G rates as you can see are subgroups are increasing I know that when we look at some of our subgroups we are concerned that maybe there are stuck but this 5 years later doesn't show the whole picture from two 12 to 2013 we have stopped groups and single digits and as you can see here none of our sub groups are in a single dishes and they are all making progress and are a through G raise our our our our curriculum fall curriculum for all of our students in our priority for College and Career Readiness and also success After High School graduation and we will continue to make this a priority and continue to update those numbers as well next light please and I'll hand this off to mr. frog for the facilities update okay back again good evening again brief update on our next steps of what's going on at Lynnwood High School the next steps are going to take is one called cheering up the spout which is a which is the name known for in out the ceiling one and that sell once they are secured we're going to go in and inspect all Columbus Zoo out the whole one of the main things are going to look for in there and go into doing what it's supposed to text first ability or on screws in joint to see if they passed that so those are those are the next three three steps that we're going to be picking at Lynnwood Target some projects that are currently in construction through our bond work we have updated Abbott Elementary which is almost we're in the process of completing playground structures that 7 out of 7 elementary site Abbott Mark Twain Rosa Park Marshall Will Rogers Roosevelt and Washington the All-Star finishing up installation of a new gas line at Linwood middle school and we have fire alarm out of Jax at Linwood Middle School Rosa Parks Will Rogers Mark Twain and Lindbergh and where process of completing secured entrances Washington Elementary Wilson and the Lincoln with our facilities and again although he's made a lot of Chris would not come finish your still a lot of work ahead of us but this is are these are just some of the highlights and we want to share with you are there any questions or comments regarding what you just heard right now before we continue I have a comment in Arabic especially in Lynnwood High School we need to make sure 100% if it is not moral that the school is safe when the students come back and I know that the administration engine Harrison all the Consultants are working very hard but we need to make sure that the school is say that that's the main thing in the first priority we need this message I know that the other projects and construction that working very well but linen tie has to be safe and that's what I'm working on. a double-double recommendation that are willing to the check every time that we go to Delano High engineer to make sure that the facility is safe and that there are no other issues there and we will make sure that we provide the report to all the Border as well as the public regarding the findings and any possible recommendations as well I have a quick question when do we first see spending now to community updates on what we're doing with the high school in terms of the safety precautions all that were talking today how are we going to be able to shut up at Xfinity Center yes so it's actually going to happen tomorrow this isn't it yeah and so the later we'll go out to email gone to the staff and then Lynwood High School principal Anna Gonzales is working with mr. with our construction management firm to set up a town hall meeting as well thank you for that all right and then I want to continue just provide you with an update and turn this up work that we've been doing again this is ongoing work some of these things have been happening for multiple years and as you know we've had our Equity department now for 5 years 5 years so for years going on 5 years and our principles of equity actors in Justice have now been in place with us for 7 years so dr. Dinkins will be joined by dr. Sanko to provide you with a brief overview of some of the work that we've been working. thank you for president I mean thank you. Next light please I'm proud to present with dr. Patricia Saint who has been a director of equity and now Equity access and instructional Services 2016 highlights for sale in Mississippi and that is what Equity means to us providing unfettered differentiated support and access to all students sizes Thor Equity plan is a three-year plant with five gold creating an understanding of equity tolerance and cultural competence throughout the organization opportunities to learn about cultural groups were targeted support to traditionally underserved including but not limited to or African-American english-learner Foster youth homeless students and lgbtq go for providing targeted support parents traditionally I defer student skateboarding but not limited to those bathroom and gold 5 using data to Define establish and Implement culturally physician practices throughout our organization next go to feather delineate gold one which is creating an understanding of equity tolerance and cultural competence throughout the organization here is some of the tenants are professional development is a myriad of operation I want to highlight race and culture unconscious bias and the many faces of biases culturally responsive teaching methods Equitable grading practices Equity versus equality and Stratton raising volume leaders next please son go to this is the structures that provide students and staff with opportunities to learn about various cultural groups including exposure to a multicultural including character education fostering Community relationships and providing Extended Learning opportunities for staff and we have done our work even though it is currently being talked about we have always done that works in alignment to the current CDC guidelines and we are providing meaningful cultural learning trips as well as ongoing inconsistent support through mentoring and tutoring at for college readiness and development stop and stare and I will hand it off to dr. Stanco who will follow up on the other coast thank you board president Hardie board member superintendent christway cab am I fabulous boss I can go three provides targeted supports for our tradition and underserved students not underserved in Lynnwood however and those students are African-American student English Learners student Foster youth homeless Asian Pacific American and students who identify as lgbtq Plus for African American student group we have provided junior senior action plan Google conferences to support graduate after graduation education male and female leadership conference's team Summit cultural experience is not only for the students but also for their family home visit date reflection session one-on-one counseling Rites of Passage cultural experience on campus mentors and tutors who assistants daily to assist students after a we went virtually in a virtual format and then of course I 3.1 million dollar Honda pipeline for young men of color at our Leadership Academy that take play at every Elementary in in Middle site for English learner students we've done great work in creating and planning a matrix for a district program review and revamped to the reclassification criteria and make sure that add criteria with communicated to all stakeholders review the ELD standards and framework provided professional development for teachers make sure that our criteria aligned with the state for the Seal of biliteracy and they also participated with leadership academies in the Honda Pipeline and EOD learning box what are lgbtq Plus student we updated our board policy and we have gay-straight alliances with Club advisors at our high school both high school and then establish a very safe code for space for inclusion very proud of their shirts. guest speaker from a theoretical standpoint we provided professional development for admin and childhood as to how to best support this student group academic progress monitoring and their research did you think the gray straight Alliance framework are Asian Pacific Islander Asian Pacific American students have also benefited from academic progress monitoring the family fun day culture experience trip resources to support the students and parents crime at firm the Asian Pacific Islander Family Support Network as well as dr. Victor Thompson with Los Angeles County Office of Education are Equity department has a point person for each one of these targeted group and the point person for Asian Pacific Islander group is mrs. Lenora Archie next Friday please go for talked about the need to make sure that our parents are given the resources and support they need as equal Partners in their children's education we've created a 7 point plan for them including family fun day advocacy and empowerment homeschool connection resources that have been placed on our website that is also been emailed out to pair to compare that support distance learning format multiple sources of communication workshops and conferences and then Gathering pairing and put in both quantitative and qualitative via surveys and then Gathering of their input next line we believe that data data is powerful and it's a powerful tool that we use to identify academic achievement gaps and areas that need additional resources from the equity Department the data sources that we use our aspect reclassification rate graduation rate entry course completion passage rate d and f r a discipline data including suspension and expulsion rates of entry into special education El Cap pair a used true survey. as well this day that has also been shared and other format as we've been received Commendation and asked to share our experiences with answer they Casa Maaco Riverside County Office of Education and our successful outcomes were recently published in a constant pill in white paper for the California Department of Education California collaborative for educational excellence as we talked about our next step we also keep in mind that there are positive outcomes that we have gained in the last 4 years when outlining these next step we are very intentional about looking at our graduation rate across the Spectrum according to the California dashboard the African American graduation rate is 93.4% comparison with the state of California which is 78% English learners 83.8% for Linwood the state 72% homeless Boston U student 88.1% for Linwood and yes 77% for the state and it turns of our students with disabilities 89.2% for living but yet 70% so we want to be intentional about looking at those measures so that we can plan clear Next Step the next step for our department are divided into four quadrants student-staff parent and grants for students with going to continue RX student Equity Forum are student Equity affinity group and then to assist our school Psych in Montreal making sure students are engaged in distance calling in and reminding them about class time for Sam we are planning a virtual Equity Institute last year we hosted over a 150 teeth and how much for a two-day two-day Equity Institute over the summer this year it will be virtual and we will be promoting and gaining the support of more Equity Warriors and the establishment of RUSD site Equity Warrior who will then go and present a three-part Equity series at every School site in our district under. We will have virtual parents as well as continue to homeschool special resources from a policy standpoint looking at our grading policy curriculum evaluation and Equity plan revision are we going to War 3 years old Equity plan at next year is our year to work on revision next Friday please communication Outreach and policy alignment are our Three core pillars for our Equity we're making sure that we shared Equity resources as well as update Outreach we have a very robust Equity professional development catalog that are administrators and instructional leader used to call us if they can choose the word stop that is tailor-made for their school type. And then on Champion site support policy alignment in order for there to continue the positive in Lynnwood we have made sure did we ever board policies on inclusion discrimination grainy suicide immigration categorical funding and sexual harassment next Friday Elsa I will leave you with our Equity Warriors Mantra that we say at the end of all of our Equity leading I wrote it for the team but we are Equity Warriors we facilitate structural changes in School System facts Kimberly understar and marginalized student the greatest gift we get is to create an environment where every student can fry we are game changers Lifesavers motivators teachers Log Lighter at work is challenging but the stakes are great we will not sell for we know it is our life's calling to liberate student from all constrain that hold them back thank you and thank you for the opportunity to serve me with student thank you dr. Dinkins and want to just come in all of our staff we are really here to repurpose public education to lead by example and she really serve our students in family sharing the community so with that President Hardy are there any questions or comments reagor unmute mrs. Lopez request form is Patricia friendship on Equity plan I would like to see included especially the students in writing because I noticed that it's not in right it's just all groups but I should like to see it included to equity everybody needs to be included in all caps I have a question for doctors and go I know this might be a bit of a loaded question but I know there was some reform and now you even in a bigger department and I'm excited about it because I feel like now we have an opportunity to further collaborate with different teams and I just wanted to hear from you how do you spell we can better collaborate with in our different student services in the equity and instruction and likes the Foster programs that we have because I feel that as an area that we always want to improve and make sure that we're doing the best for our students great I can respond both on to mrs. Lopez as well as you in the same vein our department is we we consider ourselves and octopus we cross-pollinate with the other department we meet regularly with our team members from student services doctor Martinez Kevin Van Dam new in and we provide support to them as well because special ed is that it specialized field in every city have their IEP out to participate in IEP and then we have conversations director to director and coordinator coordinator with members of the special education department. You deacons has been very Mindful and making sure that all of our directors meeting include a round round table where we go around and we share what project market and how we can support one another so you know I've been meeting with student services for a while I I joked with Doctor Jonathan long time ago and I said you know we're not trying to be State dinner for the turkey where the gravy so we just want to augment all of the secret at each department is doing so those inter-department meetings have been taking place for the last 3 years yeah I know I'm just saying that you have not that you're not actually taking an account to student my request is put in writing in your Equity plan tickets I noticed at this meeting so I don't want misconception from Community especially that's a special education that is very sensitive to the parents so if we're talking about Equity I think that we are me that particular population and that's a strong request that needs to be included in the plan to I know that it's a special education different manager turn everything but at the end of the day is our students and at the end of the day everybody is in the equity should be in there pretty plan so thank you thank you Miss Lopez and we will be sure to update and include that as we Ford with the revision of our three-year plan which expires this year thank you so much is 3 year term expires supervising what is the plan for that religion to happen I know that with everything happening probably going to be virtual but water we already planning to do to ensure that we have enough. prison ball because I think that that's something that I I've also strongly encouraged for some time now we have a lot of the same volunteers and I love those that are always willing to do extra but it's always the same voices so what are we going to do as we are able to opportunity to refresh but we have to register before you Department have already been working on and it's just incredible to see the new faces that have joined our collaborative efforts to reflect on what we're doing and also to provide new input so doctors Angela take it away boys I want to make one is really looking at the equity site team and having our volunteer from every School site become their own Equity Warriors team so that's something different but in addition to that what we did the first time we did have a lot of people on the committee Equity scope holder included representatives from every school pipe parent representatives from each of our corporate stakeholders student the other staff members from classified as certificate because the equity has to be about everyone at I agree totally with with mrs. Hardy just wanted to talk about a couple of things but one of the things I want to talk about was the fast for application and I'm so glad that we had so many such a high percentage of our students Bible because there's been studies of there's a direct correlation with that and how many of our students actually attend college and I definitely want to highlight or counselors because I heard that they were very thing at work you know going after all students to make sure that they thought out those applications and I also know though that was in part because Miss Rancheria you know brought the issue to stop the attention and I think that either one thing we're in this for its farthest improve the education of our students and make sure that they're successful and as many of them as want to attend college and I think that that was something that was remarkable because the percentage of it was extremely high and we were not there back in December so I think that everyone did a wonderful job and I just want to ask her what's going on in your life and everyone be careful stay home California recorded the highest numbers of Copa cases yesterday go with your father and as much as you know people are trying to stay safe while they're not so stay at home as much as possible or you know social distance is important and that Oakley go back to normal your kids making school which is what we want and I know that the board feels that way but their safety is a priority and we are going to make sure that our kids are safe and that they're not an experiment and that we send them to school when we know and lastly regarding new high school we met a couple of times on a facilities committee that we have orders to board members which is myself and Miss Renteria and we've also had a full session item on a retreat so I wanted to let you know that we're on top of the issue and we're going to make sure that our school girl zombie we're going to hold anybody or anything responsible of any need to be held responsible but we're going to make sure that our kids are safe before we put them back document analysis Miss Renteria thank you party so do you think everyone thank you so much for joining us tonight and I do want to first off commend our staff for the presentation just gave I I am a big believer and I know that sometimes I can be a little hard because I always go keep going and I'm always looking at what's next and what can we do better and what can we improve and how can we get better but I think tonight is a great it's a great time to reflect on just the work that that all of you have been able to accomplish despite the circumstances this was a really challenging year across the board and I know that I told you I was going to school Theatre myself it was by far the heart is the hardest most difficult year of my life to bead a so I can only imagine the work you've all been going through in distress so I commend your work I applaud you for just being able to go above and beyond and I am so grateful that we have so many at the Warriors and the right position I do think that the work site is meaning of the reflection of the kind of leadership that we currently have across-the-board letter at the district level so thank you all so much for that work I also want to reiterate we'll miss Morales said. Serrate huge I know that years ago I was always talking about that because I was a college counselor and is used to just that was one of the things I could not let me sleep that we were under the 40% and just seeing it increased so drastic for the last couple years with College counselors at having stop partnership with USC and having College and Career Technical Center all of those different have been integral to the progress made so I am just super proud and it's always nice to see like yes that move was the right move so I'm excited to continue to see that I still drink 100% I know we're going to get there but it's always just nice to be able to reflect and think about how far he's come I also want to make sure that I I shared with some of my old colleagues because I do consider all of the computers and live with my colleagues because I am on the same boat with you I also have the same worries about going back to school and I know that we were one of the first district to make very clear that we were not going to open if we felt it was not safe and just knowing that the state is that the governor was able to now make it so that all districts could do the same and realized that this wasn't about eagles it's about Family Safety and I know that a lot of you have felt that sense of relief at knowing that you have people looking out for you and know that we're all looking out for you I know that by my colleague just as stressed and it's been to know that are we going to go back to school but it's going to look like in just know that we are we're here for you whatever you need these at 2 or teachers be open to ask for talk to your principal asked him for what you need and if the principal is if you don't have what you need please ask the directors and ask you supervisors help you because I know what it's like to be alone and one of my goals this year is how do we better support you what do we need to do to ensure that we're not just going to make it through distance learning but we make the best of distance learning because our students deserve a quality experience you all deserve equality of work experience so I just want to you know that we're here for you working to support you and we don't have all the answers in a lot of pain so if you have ideas reach out to it you have her email or email District able to give it to you it is public information but I want to true that you are able to share those ideas with us because we're always looking to see what can we do better to support you to ensure that at the end of the day our students receive what they deserve what is a quality education but thank you so much for I know many of you I seen a lot of Lynnwood Educators I keep posting on social media they're doing webinars on training themselves on their own time to figure out how to do bitmoji classroom how to do more Interactive session and that in itself showed your commitment and your dedication to ensuring you are the best teacher you can be but in addition to all of that asked for help because that's our job is to ensure we give you whatever you need do a good job. He said that he and I are both part of a committee that allows us to have a little bit more insight into all the facility issues of okasa District and I know that as a board we have discussed our full commitment to ensuring that not only is Liberty High School not only do we take every precaution necessary so that isolate a safe environment for all of us is the stop button general for all of our school that is one of the big topics that we discussed at our last Retreat this Sunday it's it's the understanding that we're all bodies are bigger commitment you all at families and parents you let us borrow your little one on a daily basis and these are your babies regardless of their high school and it's our job to make sure they're so please know that we're doing what we need to do to ensure that we follow through on everything that we have and make web responsible for what happens of responsible for it and ensure that we take the right measures from Karen on please be patient with us I know that I stopped or possibly said earlier we're going to be showing work Keisha and I know that that's always something that's requested like we want to know more if you want to know what's happening and I know that these meetings are not always the most user-friendly I can understand that.
