Superintendent's Message

Gudiel CrosthwaiteWelcome to the Lynwood Unified School District, where we empower scholars to fearlessly achieve their goals while reaching their college and career aspirations!

We are excited to embark on a new academic year and build the foundation for a brighter future as we support the educational journeys of nearly 14,000 students at 12 elementary schools, two middle schools, three high schools, a preschool program, an adult school and an independent study program.

Our programs give students the opportunity to delve deeper into the topics that interest them most while still completing the requirements for promotion, graduation and admittance into some of the nation’s top colleges and universities, including Stanford, UCLA, Dartmouth, UC Berkeley and several HBCUs.

Our Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways branch out into our middle and elementary schools, helping students determine which profession they might want to follow once they enter high school. Pathways include manufacturing and engineering, biomedicine and nursing, media and design arts, performing arts, photography, culinary arts and automotive.

The District’s emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects has expanded with an elementary robotics course and a TK-2 iPad initiative, which gets younger students involved in computer coding through games and robots. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses and STEM programs include coding, computer science, biomedical sciences and more.

This year, we are transforming every LUSD school into a Community School thanks to a $24.5 million state grant we were awarded to enhance educational opportunities for all students. Every school will have a dedicated team of coordinators, case managers, social-emotional learning specialists, student support staff and licensed clinical social workers who will partner with families, educators and community agencies to improve student outcomes.

We are incredibly proud to be part of this wonderful school district, where our dedicated educators provide personalized attention to students and collaborate with families to support their children’s ongoing success. Thank you for joining us as we foster a community in which everyone feels valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

Sincerely,

Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D.
