Superintendent's Update

Dear Friends of the Lynwood Unified School District,

The holiday season is upon us, and we’re continuing to strengthen our commitment to an achievement culture that challenges each student to be their best. I am continually inspired as our students, staff and programs earn honors that speak to our exceptional work as a District.
November was an exceptional month for our arts programs, beginning with Lynwood High School’s dance ensemble performing at Disney’s California Adventure. Our students put on a 22-minute show featuring hip hop, jazz and musical theater for hundreds of park guests.
The District’s Building Relationships and Inspiring Dialogue through Global Exchange (BRIDGE) Theatre Project also delivered a notable show as they performed a play written by youth in Rwanda. Through the arts, our children are learning lessons that transcend geography and culture.

Lynwood High School senior Abieiden Lopez was recently named a National Merit commended student, placing her in an elite group of students who make up two percent of seniors who received the highest scores across the country. This was made possible by our District’s commitment to ensuring all eighth- through 11th-grade students take the PSAT, which is necessary to qualify to be a National Merit Scholar. Abieiden has a passion for engineering and advocacy and her ambition is a shining example to all of our students.

The parents of our District continue to be empowered through our Project 2-INSPIRE Program, supported by the California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE), which builds bridges between parents and the community and gives them the tools to be parent mentors. This is one of many important parent engagement programs offered at Lynwood Unified, and we recognize the high value of each and every one.

Let us continue to work together on behalf of our students as we strive to build the future leaders of the Lynwood community.

Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D.
