Superintendent's Update - February 2017

Dear friends and family of the Lynwood Unified School District,

This month, Lynwood Unified will be recognized as a national leader because of the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers and staff. At Lynwood Unified, our mission is to inspire a culture of high expectations, to create forward-thinking individuals who are driven to go beyond their daily lessons and think critically about their roles as leaders of the 21st century. Every single day, LUSD teachers and students work diligently to implement programs and policies that ensure students are prepared to succeed in college and beyond.
This hard work and dedication has been recognized by the College Board, which has not only named Lynwood Unified as an AP Honor Roll district, but has named our District one of three 2017 National Advanced Placement Districts of the Year.
This is a tremendous honor, acknowledging the District’s efforts to significantly increase the number of students taking AP exams, while simultaneously increasing pass rates.
By doing away with prerequisites and tracking, every student can enroll in advanced coursework, including AP honors and International Baccalaureate programs. Teacher training, summer camps, online tutorials and District funds allocated to cover the cost of student exams have all played pivotal roles in the substantial growth of our academic programs.
This achievement shows we are on the right track to ensuring students leave our campuses ready to excel in any path they choose. Our programs at Lynwood Unified focus on equity and access for all students, equipping our scholars with the tools required to thrive in college, careers and life.
I want to sincerely thank everyone within our Lynwood Unified School District community for upholding our commitment to ensuring all students prosper.
