Lynwood Middle School art teacher Kristen Mahaffey had encountered just about every classroom scenario before school closures left her, and us all, in unfamiliar territory.
“I had never even used Google Classroom before,” Mahaffey said.
Mahaffey, though, dived into the unknown. And as the District closes out a challenging school year she’s a prime example of all the educators who stepped up and turned weaknesses into strengths for the good of students.

Over the past few months, Mahaffey has leaned heavily on District webinars that have helped her implement Google Drawing, Canvas, and other programs into her virtual classes. She regularly creates galleries and posts them in Google Classroom for students to share.
Her students are ending the year with a PowerPoint presentation on their favorite artists. Little do they know how much their teacher had to ace her own final exam so their learning could continue.
