Lynwood Unified has increased its District graduation rate by more than 6 percentage points through programs that focus on college and career success and build on the achievement culture of the District.
Lynwood Unified’s graduation rate has surged to 90.8 percent for the 2018-19 school year, up from 84.6 the previous year, according to recently released California data.

“This is very exciting data and evidence that we are working in collaboration with our community to strengthen our programs and inspire young people to thrive beyond high school,” LUSD Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite said. “We will continue to strive to help every Lynwood student achieve their full potential.”
In 2017, Lynwood Unified was one of just three districts in the U.S. to be named AP College Board District of the Year for its work in expanding access to AP courses while simultaneously improving AP exam performance. The District has continued to build on that momentum through efforts that remove barriers to success for students and inspire them to strive for success beyond high school.
Lynwood Unified students have increased college access through the District’s College Promise partnership with local schools. The effort provides graduates with priority registration, guaranteed admission, financial aid assistance and curriculum to help with college readiness. Dual and concurrent enrollment is also offered with local colleges, allowing students to get a head start on success as they earn college credit while completing high school.
In February, more than 400 students were accepted to schools during the District’s Historically Black College and Universities (HBCU) Caravan Tour. In partnership with the National College Resources Foundation (NCRF) and the Black College Expo, students visited with schools and received on-the-spot acceptances while recruiters waived application fees.
The District also holds an annual alumni association college conference that exposes students to universities as well as successful professionals. Throughout the year, college and career centers at high schools provide resources and hands-on guidance for college admission and career exploration.
“We are continuing to build a culture of excellence in Lynwood that inspires students to reach for success with the confidence that they can achieve their goals,” LUSD Board President Gary Hardie Jr. said. “Our work is far from finished, but we are proud of the gains we have made in helping young people attain successful futures.”
