Happy Teachers Appreciation Week!

To our dedicated teachers,

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! It is an honor to pause and recognize your hard work and dedication. Teachers, especially those in Lynwood, will always hold a special place in my heart and I cannot begin to express the depth of my gratitude for all you do.

Growing up as a student in Lynwood schools, I felt like my life was fraught with more than its fair share of hardships. There were times where my family did not have food to eat, and a period of time where we were homeless.

While life seemed unfair and exceptionally hard, one thing remained true: no matter how bad things were I always looked forward to coming to school. Coming to school allowed me to be among my peers and glean from the incredible educators that taught me, believed in me, pushed me and insisted that I do the very best that I could.

In many ways, my teachers at Washington Elementary, Hosler Middle and Lynwood High School saved my life and shaped my future. This reality is also true for the students who are in your care daily, including my daughter Lailah.

Because of you our students have broad horizons and bright futures. I am grateful for all of you and I cannot thank you enough for the incredible sacrifice you make for our students every day. Each day that you show up and allow our students to connect with you, trust and learn from you is a day you are making our community brighter while making the hopes and dreams of Lynwood kids, like me, all the more real and attainable.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Sincerely,

Gary Hardie, Jr.
