Students Thrive at District’s Track and Field Championships

More than 700 Lynwood Unified K-8 students competed in the District’s annual Track and Field Championships on April 13 at Lynwood High School.

Students who earned first- through fifth-place finishes were awarded medals and ribbons, while earning points for their teams, and now advance to a Qualifier Meet on May 19 at Rancho Dominguez Preparatory in Long Beach.

Will Rogers Elementary captured this year’s overall points trophy followed closely by Abbott Elementary. Lynwood Middle School and 11 of the 12 elementary schools competed and displayed pride for their schools.

Coaches helped student athletes train for four months in anticipation of the event, which was helped put on by Wilson Elementary Assistant Principal Dr. Yadira Perez, Brittany Carranza, of Wilson, and Valdemar Quijada of Roosevelt Elementary.
