HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS
Students shall participate in commencement ceremonies and receive diplomas of graduation from high school only after completing all requirements.
To receive a high school diploma from Lynwood Unified School District, students must complete the following credits:
1. Total credits required: 220 (Including 150 credits from require courses)
2. Required courses:
Credit is earned for grades of A through D in all courses. Standard credit is 5 units for each semester course passed. An “F” or “WF” earns zero credit. To receive a high school diploma from Lynwood Unified School District, students must complete the following credits:
- English: 4 years (40 credits)
- World History: 1 year (10 credits)
- U.S. History: 1 year (10 credits)
- US Government: 1 semester (5 credits)
- Economics: 1 semester (5 credits)
- Mathematics: 3 years (30 credits)
- Algebra 1, and Geometry are required (20 credits)
- Algebra 2, Statistics, Financial Literacy or other Elective (10 credits)
- Science: 2 years (20 credits)
- Life Science(10 credits)
- Physical Science(10 credits)
- Physical Education: 2 years (20 credits)
- Visual/Performing Arts/Practical Arts: 1 year (10 credits)
- **Foreign Language: 1 year (10 credits)
- Elective Credits: (60 credits)
** UC requires two years and recommends three years of foreign language. CSU requires one year of foreign language and recommends two years of visual/performing arts. May be waived, if student meets skill level (UC Admissions guide.) New requirements gives students the option of one year of visual/performing arts. These requirements effective 2010-2011 school year. Writing is not required for graduates of 2010 and thereafter.
California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
Current law requires students to pass an examination in language arts and mathematics in accordance with the statewide academically rigorous content standards adopted by the State Board of Education. Students are allowed to test once during their sophomore year, twice during the junior year and five times during their senior year in order to qualify for a high school diploma.
