High School Curriculum and College Prep Classes

The following is a brief explanation of college admission requirements.  The classes taken in high school is an important factor in the college admission process.  Most college and universities require applicants to have taken classes in the following subject areas: English, Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, Foreign Language and Arts.

While California Community Colleges do not require specific high school courses of grades, they still recommend students to take college preparatory classes for those considering a bachelor’s degree.

High School Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

Students interested in universities with competitive admission standards, are encouraged to take more challenging courses offered by our schools.  Honor and advanced placement (AP) courses are frequently an important factor in the college admission process.  Just as important, students who are motivated and are able to do more challenging work will benefit intellectually and academically from the extra work that it takes to complete honors courses.

College Prep Classes

Lynwood Unified School District offers a set of courses that are identified as college preparatory.  The college prep pattern is designed to meet the admission requirements of a wide range of colleges and universities.  Our college prep course patterns match the A-G pattern required by the University of California, California State University and many independent colleges.
