Curriculum Frameworks

Curriculum frameworks provide guidance for implementing the standards adopted by the California Board of Education.  Frameworks are "blueprints" for implementing the content standards for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. More specifically, frameworks:

  • organizes a body of knowledge that students need to learn during their K-12 years.
  • created to illuminate methods to be used to extend specific content.
  • elaborate on standards and describe the curriculum, instruction and assessment necessary to help students.
  • provide a coherent, effective and efficient program of instruction.

Curriculum frameworks are essential resources that "reflects guidance, comments and thoughts" from scholars, curriculum experts and classroom teachers to ensure that all students receive world-class instruction.

Essential Standards

The State of California has adopted content standards in each of the core curricular areas “to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.”These standards establish high expectations for students and represent the skills and concepts taught at each grade level.  All grade level standards are taught at Lynwood Unified School District and essential standards have been identified to reinforce consistent delivery of instruction while allowing for articulation of skills across grade levels and disciplines.

Essential are standards taught with greater emphasis.  All students are expected to master these essential standards in order to be successful in the next  grade level and their progress is monitored periodically utilizing a variety of assessments tools.

Content Standards

Content standards were designed to encourage the highest achievement of every student, by defining the knowledge, concepts, and skills that students should acquire at each grade level.  The goal for all students in California is to meet or exceed all standards for their grade level and subject.  The standards are organized by strands that remain the same and grow developmentally and in depth of knowledge as students progress through the grades.
